07:38 PM ET 12.28 | After hearing the news that head coach Avery Johnson had gotten the axe, star point guard Deron Williams said that he was shocked that it came to a firing in Brooklyn, and that he couldn't think of a reason why Johnson was fired. Williams also said that he had just gotten done with a workout that featured Big Foot, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny whilst doing his best Bart Simpson impression. Deron Williams is now known as the "I Didn't Do It Boy". Many people say that it was Williams that forced Jazz coach Jerry Sloan into retirement, so nobody can be blamed for connecting that dot with the recent firing of Johnson. The Nets say Williams was not involved in the decision to fire Johnson, but for a team to make a move behind the back of its superstar player is unlikely. Williams may not have pulled the trigger on Johnson while his back was turned, but it's highly suggestive that he was holding the gun.

You would think that Avery would have learned from his Dallas experience... He clearly lost his voice in Dallas. I don't see how going from losing the finals, losing to the 8th seed, and then getting fired with four years left on the contract qualifies you to coach another team with less talent.

But I guess that's why I'm here on this side of the computer...

QUOTE(#5):

What did you expect him to do ?? Turn down the offer and sit at home twiddling his thumbs ? He was given a great opportunity - to coach an up-and-coming team in a big market, with support from a new billionaire owner willing to spend the money to improve the roster. It was the best offer he could get at that time, so he took it. Duh.

K.
So you think the Nets made a good hire? And fire?

One question before I put this one to bed. Where is the criticism of Kobe Bryant in the case of Mike Brown given the logic from the piece that the coach wouldn't be fired behind the team's superstar's back. Why is there no throwing rocks at him in the case of Mike Brown. What's Mike Brown, luncheon meat? More sports writer hypocrisy!
