08:59 AM ET 12.29 | The Nets currently have a head coach with the initials P.J. But the possibility of hiring another coach who shares them clearly has Mikhail Prokhorov intrigued. Speaking to reporters at halftime of Friday night's 97-81 victory over the Bobcats, a victory that came one day after the Nets announced the firing of head coach Avery Johnson, the team's billionaire owner repeatedly gave support to the team's interim coach, P.J. Carlesimo. At the same time, he did nothing to dispel the notion his first choice to replace the departed Johnson is Phil Jackson. Prokhorov said he actually made the decision to fire Johnson last week, and didn't elaborate when asked why the move wasn't made until Thursday.

Win Or Go Home, Bro?

I doubt that prior to him being named interim coach, Pokhorov had ever heard of PJ (to "back" him now)

QUOTE(#11):

$15-20 million per year will make PJ say yes in a heartbeat. And consider that it's in NY and the team is built to win now. PJ won't have a much better choice of a team than the Nets right now. Lakers and Knicks are already out of the question and the bulls already gave Tibs an extension. The Nets is ripe for the picking for PJ.

I agree. I think Jackson should take it, but I thought that about the Lakers job as well.

But good points. This team doesn't have a Jordan, Shaq or Pippen, but it can be a contender and Phil could give them a title shot. If he doesn't take it and Carlissimo stays on, that's not so bad for the Nets.

QUOTE(#4):

I doubt PJ coaches ever again, but if the Russian throws ten million dollars a year at him, with player personnel input and a promise to give him a position in the front office after coaching, it may get PJ to reconsider.

None of those incentives mean anything to Phil Jackson. He doesn't need the money. He doesn't need promises.

For as much as disdain as I have towards Phil Jackson "the coach", I have to admit that the Nets would be a better fit for him and his system than the Lakers would have. I say this because the Nets have the "more cerebral" players that the Triangle (and the Princeton) offense needs.
