12:11 PM ET 12.29 | The New Orleans Saints and Sean Payton agreed to a multi-year contract extension Friday, according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the deal is for five years, though financial details remain unknown. Payton is serving a season-long suspension for his alleged role in the Saints' bounty scandal, and that suspension runs through the 2013 Super Bowl. In addition to suspending Payton, the NFL also voided a contract extension that would have kept him in New Orleans through 2015. But now it appears the Saints and Payton have agreed to a new extension that will end the uncertainty over the franchise's head coaching situation heading into the 2013 season.

I'm not a Saints fan, but really happy for Payton and the Saints, NFL way way way overboard playing FBI on this BS....I hope the owners vote Goodell out this year. NFL needs a business manager, not the bad boy police, the players do plenty wrong that the real police are kept busy.

I don't see reality and anyone who actually thought Payton would go to Dallas getting along too well.
