Browns to clean house by Monday

08:47 AM ET 12.30 | It's become a Browns tradition over the past several years: Close out the season against the Steelers and then watch heads roll within 24 hours after the game. Coach Pat Shurmur and general manager Tom Heckert are expected to either be fired or part ways with new owner Jimmy Haslam and new CEO Joe Banner by Monday, league sources told The Plain Dealer. It's reminiscent of 2008, when former Browns coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Phil Savage lost their jobs following a 31-0 loss in Pittsburgh. Former Browns coach Eric Mangini suffered the same fate after losing 41-9 to the Steelers in 2010.

Another year another Browns house cleaning

Not sure what the problem is but changing coaches and GMs every two years isn't the answer.

December 30, 2012  09:21 AM ET

Agreed but with new ownership it was pretty much inevitable

You'd think someone with that much money would be smart enough to keep the coaching staff. Given a little time they're going to get it done. I don't think they're going to attract a Cowher or Kelly, etc. to Cleveland.

Anybody know if they're going to keep developing Weeden, or are they looking to start completely over?

December 30, 2012  10:08 AM ET

Stupid me, I thought they were getting better.

Norv would be a great OC, and that's about it. I think the next head coaching gig he would get would be at the college-level, if he was interested in anything like that.

You do realize that the Browns are under new ownership right? I'm thinking that Jimmy Haslam wants to get his own people in there rather than keeping people hired by the previous clueless ownership. And I know it's easy to bash the Browns but hopefully Haslam will get them going in the right direction.

Yeah... I guess we were both seeing something the new owner didn't.

Let's see... A chance to set myself up as King for life on some beautiful campus? I'd be interested. That has always seemed like a better gig to me.

Oh you are so funny DJ, not. Wasn't the price tag for the team a billion plus? And besides as a Raiders fan you really should keep your mouth shut.

Why? We're talking about the Browns.

I keep forgetting how great your Raiders have been over the past several years.
