07:40 PM ET 12.30 | Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson fell short from adding another record to his mantle, failing to cross 2,000 receiving yards today against the Chicago Bears. He missed the mark by 36 yards. It would have been the second major record in as many weeks for Johnson. Against the Atlanta Falcons last week, the Lions' receiver topped Jerry Rice's single season receiving record of 1,848 yards, which had stood since 1995. Entering Sunday's game, Johnson needed just 108 yards to eclipse the 2,000 yard mark -- which would have been a routine total given Johnson's season. He finished with 5 receptions for 72 yards, thanks in part to Matthew Stafford choosing the final game of the season to spread the ball around.

Congrats to Megatron on the best season EVER for a Wide Receiver. Barring injury, Calvin Johnson will end up surpassing Jerry Rice in most record categories...except Super Bowls.

Felt bad for him, especially since the Bears be done anyway. Time to clean house in the Windy City. The Lovie Smith era should be over after this!

Chicago did a good job keeping Johnson in check. It wasn't really Stafford's fault.

2,000 is nothing more than an arbitrary benchmark.
He got the record. That's all that should matter - if you want to even claim that matters.

He got the record on a team that went 4-12. It's the team's record that matters. The rest is nice, but if your team sucks then so what?

RICE'S SEASON WAS BETTER. The lions sucked so obviously Stafford was just chunking the ball up in the air.
