He's been spotted making twice-daily trips to the gym at a five-star resort in Cabo San Lucas where he's rented a private villa with Wilson and his daughters Natasha and Ella. A well-placed source tells us, "Alex visits the gym every morning and every afternoon for at least an hour each time with his personal trainer, who has flown in with him. He is very focused on doing 'pre-hab' to prepare himself for surgery, which involves a lot of core work to strengthen and improve his recovery time."

The entire AL East is suffering from the new luxury tax rules, and the contracts Boston and New York were saddled with work against them. Boston was lucky enough to unload on the Dodgers. New York is going to take longer to turn the page.

So New York "stealing" A-Rod turned out not to be so bad after all - for Boston.

Besides - two hours a day - while good - is not committing oneself to a rigorous pre-hab training regimen. While admirable - double that amount of time if you really want a strong core in less than a month....
