08:25 AM ET 12.31 | Will it be a happy New Year for the NHL? [NHLPA] executive director Donald Fehr was supposed to deliver Sunday a response to the league's latest offer. Instead, the union decided it needed more time before getting back in the room with league officials. While the two sides were supposed to sit down, the NHLPA informed commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy Bill Daly late in the afternoon they weren't ready to return to the table because they're still working on a response. ... [Fehr] was huddled with his closest advisors working on a counter-proposal that will be tabled Monday. "I'm sure you're going to see Fehr try to squeeze the league for more," predicted a league executive Sunday. "He still feels he has time to push a few more buttons."

He's been right about everything so far huh? He and the Dwarf should be locked in a portable toilet in outdoor Edmonton (sorry Whale) until a deal is reached. And kept there for two seasons during months with an "r" in them.

Okay listen up Fehr/Bettman:
We get it okay? You're both the toughest guys in the world...no one will ever put anything over on either of you. We all with we were you two.
Now would you all please stop trying to strut around the barnyard and get to this already....maybe if you get it done....we'll all chip in and give you back all of the lunch money that was obviously taken from you

Donald Fehr is only out for himself and his reputation. He ruins seasons. He ruins leagues. Why the NHLPA hired him, I will never know. Did they actually expect to get anywhere with him? I'm not even pro-league (I think Bettman should be fired immediately), but they were foolish to bring in such a maniac who was/is pretending to do their bidding. He's only out for himself and to squeeze the NHL, and we've lost a season because of it. Bravo NHLPA. There's only 200+ of you, and you're letting this guy ruin your season, destroy your league, and for what? So Sidney Crosby and other elite players can pad their already deep pockets, and get longer deals when the majority of you won't see anything close to that. Brilliant.

Were you subconsciously trying to see what Bryan would think about this?
(Yes, I'm ashamed of myself but I'm over it already).

How dare those players look for representation that will look out for them. FOR SHAME. How dare he lock them out. How dare he cancel the season like he did 8 years ago. He only cares for himself. Now that other guy, he loves the sport, loves the players and is a fine outstanding gentleman.

truth be told, there is more than enough blame for both of these guys to share...but Nardo is right (in his sarcastic way) after the "Oz shower treatment" the players usually get, they did need someone to speak up for them...alas, they picked the wrong guy to butt heads with butt_plug

The owners basically made the players get Fehr. Lets not forget that. They crushed the old PA and they were left in shambles. They were forced to get a really strong voice and the biggest fish out there was Fehr. If the owners weren't insistent on crushing the players they wouldn't be fighting with Fehr right now. And yes Fehr deserves blame, but let's not also forget he told the players when they signed him this is what he was going to do for them. And he is doing all he can for them. My real wish is he would make the NHL look at their leadership like the PA did after the last lockout. BUt let's be honest, we aren't lucky enough for that to happen.

I dunno Nard. I think that after this mess is resolved at least temporarily something good may happen. My guess is that Bettman is gone within the next couple of years. Fehr..........I have no idea. I still think that it will finally dawn on the players that they have lost a minimum of 50% of their salaries even if the lockout ends tomorrow and they are NEVER going to make that up. Never. Hopefully it may begin to dawn on a majority of owners that the dysfunctional relationship between the league and the NHLPA costs them a lot of money too. TV contracts will be offered only tepidly for small amounts until networks can actually count on the programming. The whole thing is sad. And we are the most unimportant part of the equation. Unfortunately it's our money that funds the whole debacle.

I think Fehr is a one term guy...as for Dwarfus...who knows. I can't imagine that he will be around much longer...but if this does get settled, he won't be bowled (wait for it....) till season's end, unless some of the more compassionate ones (owners) want to save him the embarassment of being booed yet again while awarding the Cup

Players get 50% of the hrr for salary so they have not lost 50% yet. People keep saying they lost paychecks. It's simply made up. Until the hrr is resolved no player could get paid. If they play 48 games they get more then 50%. People keep forgetting that. It's not like they have fixed salaries because no matter what they sign for its still a fixed system.
And spiny is correct Fehr is one and done. His brother will take over.
