Crennel fired in Kansas City, but Scott Pioli will stay

10:13 AM ET 12.31 | The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that head coach Romeo Crennel has been fired, but in an interesting twist, general manager Scott Pioli will not be following him out the door. At least not yet, he's not. Like so many other coaches on Black Monday, the writing has been on the wall for Crennel for sometime now. The Chiefs have clinched the worst record in the NFL and thusly the No. 1 pick in this upcoming April's NFL Draft. But while Crennel shoulders some blame for this season, it's Pioli who's been on fans' nerves, and in their minds, for all the bad seasons in recent memory. Crennel is gone, which was expected, but the fact that Pioli remains will not sit well with Chiefs fans already sick of his tyrannical ruining of their franchise.

No chance the GM stays...is there ? Who exactly did Romeo have to coach anyways?

Plenty of time for him to come back to NE for the playoffs.

Pioli brought in Matt Cassell, didn't he?

The price of not winning.

Cassell did well with New England but the Chiefs have no talent.

Exactly...

Romeo was not the problem in KC... It was the Void of Talent that Pioli put together...

"If my boy Cassell (with his massive contract) doesn't pan out, we've got Brady Quinn."

Top 2 Pick coming right up for KC.

Pioli should have been fired with Crennel.

Romeo's a good guy...

Might not be HC material, but I would canned Pioli before I canned Romeo...

Pioli must talk a good game...

And I just checked... KC has the #1 Pick in the draft - edged out Jax.

Pioli must have embarrassing pictures of Hunt...

The management needs to get rid of the GM and start over and rebuild with a new GM and coach and have patience for at least for another five years.

Agreed... 100%. That should have been a package deal.

Now Pioli gets to squander the #1 pick in April.

Romeo won't be unemployed for long... I'm sure there's at least a few teams with interest in his services as DC.

Is there any truth to the Schottenheimer rumors?

December 31, 2012  12:23 PM ET

"...tyrannical ruining...", well isn't that sports reporter getting very literate, though I'm not sure what he's trying to say?
