12:54 PM ET 12.31 | The New York Jets will not fire Rex Ryan after a dismal season, as owner Woody Johnson announced that he'll retain the head coach while firing GM Mike Tannenbaum, according to reports. The Jets are moving on without Tannenbaum, as well as reportedly firing offensive coordinator Tony Sparano. But Ryan is apparently safe, and will be back in 2013 to coach the team.

I guess the Rumors of Rex replacing Gruden in the MNF Booth will have to be put on hold.

He definitely has pictures. Not sure they're of Woody's feet but Rex definitely has pictures.

It's not that. Woody likes the headlines and Rex has a big mouth and gets in the papers. And getting in the papers is all he cares about

Rex will be on a short leash. If he can't get past 8-8, I'd expect him to be gone.

Every time he talks, I am like Homer Simpson imagining clown cars and the clown song plays in my head.

Cheaper to keep him, apparently. At least Woody Johnson fired Mike Tannenbaum outright. There was talk that Mike T. would be kept around in a reduced role. That wouldn't have been a smart move.

With Sanchez back next year there is no way in hell that the Jets improve from this past season's lack of success.

And in keeping with the Jets classy outlook they cancelled their press conference, Rex cancelled his usual radio appearance on espn radio and the team will not be taking questions of any kind

Everyone is acting like the Jets had a stellar roster to begin with. I am by no means a Jets fan, but when you are relying on a rookie WR as your WR1 and no solid RB ...what do you expect. ZERO weapons and the GM is the primary reason behind that. poor drafting and poor acquisitions...poor contract management. sure Rex had some say...but the man who's job description is to handle roster and budget is the one who rightfully got the Axe. now perhaps they can get some type of success in this years draft despite losing out on draft picks when they acquired Tebow....another move I think went over the pay grade of Rex. I think he did a decent job this year. they should focus on getting a QB that can actually throw the ball to compete with Sanchez...not a PR stunt. They need WRs..and they need to draft a good RB. Defensively they need to get someone who can put constant pressure on the QB. They gotta figure out what to do with Revis and getting him back on the team. Its a lot and the lack of draft picks doesn't help...but they need to get back into the game. Perhaps with better scouting to start.
