03:16 PM ET 12.31 | Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton is reportedly a candidate for the Browns newly open head coach position. Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer tweeted Monday that Horton was "on the Browns radar" -- a report that comes on the heels of rumblings Sunday that Horton might be interviewed early in the week. The Browns fired head coach Pat Shurmur early Monday, a move that was expected for several weeks. The speculation over his replacement has been ongoing throughout the second half of the season, and several more names emerged as candidates Monday. Horton joins Dirk Koetter and Aaron Kromer as three NFL assistant names that have been floated just hours after Shurmur's removal. New Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner met with the media on Monday and indicated that they will hire a coach before a new GM or personnel chief, who would replace Tom Heckert.

He's also a candidate to be promoted to the head position with the Cards.

Cleveland, is going to hire a coach and then a GM, Unless it's a guy with a lot of experience like Andy Reid, who only wants to Coach that's ok, but sooner or later da GM interferes with what goes on, on the field! New Owner New Philosophy, same losing system only a different name!

The Cardnials have a good defense, maybe the guy can coach? I'd hire Marty back in a hurry, the Browns have a Good Young Team and he would be the perfect guy!!!

More like, Who the hell is Horton?

We could have said the same thing for most coaches before they proved to be successful..$50 if anyone knew Mike McCarthy or Mike Tomlin before they became HCs

They have a very good D and they aren't going to give permission to other teams to talk to him until they determine their course of action
