08:14 AM ET 01.01 | For now, a few arms available on the open market may change things, but rosters -- even, in some cities, the rotations -- have taken some shape during this offseason. But there is enough information available to rank the 10 best rotations for 2013. 1. Detroit Tigers. ... The rotation of Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Doug Fister, Anibal Sanchez and Rick Porcello took the Tigers to the World Series, and they could be even better in 2013. Verlander is generally regarded within the industry as the best pitcher on the planet, Fister is coming back from a season in which he was nagged by an oblique injury, and the Tigers will benefit from a full season of Sanchez, who was re-signed to an $80 million deal.

Mr. writer you have got to be a home boy ranking the Tigers the best in baseball. On paper you may be right, but injuries during the season to some teams bring them back to the pack and another staff comes to the top and helps their team win the big prize.

Indeed it is.

2 out of the last 3 World Series would seem to differ with this analysis. The standard for excellence today, in terms of staff excellence, is the SF Giants, and every team out there is trying to duplicate their success.
And there's more in their minor-league system.

The only thing the TIGERS need now is a closer a second baseman and maybe a new shortstop. But look at the new line up that they will have this year.Great pitching and great hitting wins.

I think so too. Strasburg-Gio-Haren-Zimmermann-Detwiler is pretty good.
Look in St. Louis too. Carpenter-Wainwright-Lynn-Miller-Garcia-Westbrook.
I love San Fran's guys, and they have have the rings.
And, IF healthy, I gotta say that Dickey-Johnson-Buerhle-Morrow-Romero has a chance to be very good for this season.

Now that Delmon Young is whittling soap bunnies for a living, the Best Rotation In The Majors might, I say might come in handy in 2013.

The Dodgers have another staff worthy of consideration.
It's all going to depend on which staff has a good year. The Phillies are still a great staff with a good year from Halliday.

Dodgers are like the Tigers. Good number one, but number two has questions.

It is. But four games is a very small sample, and some of those games could have been more interesting if the Tigers could have scored a few runs. This is also the pitching staff that completely shut down the Yankees, who led the AL in runs scored. So say what you will, but traditional and SABRmetric stats both show the Detroit rotation as being the best. Let's see how that plays out on the grass vs the paper.
