First, he got clipped in the right cheek by a skate, which required the cut to be glued shut on the bench. Back on the ice a few minutes later, he got driven into the boards from behind by Russia's Valeri Nichushkin, who received a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct. Canada scored twice on the ensuing power play. Wotherspoon had to go for stitches after the hit into the boards split open the cut he had received from the skate. "I had a guy come in and tell me when we scored. That was good of him," said Wotherspoon. "The boys played well on the power play."
