The best- (and worst-) case Strasburg scenarios

08:17 AM ET 01.01 | The shutting down of Stephen Strasburg certainly ranked among the top storylines in Washington this past season, but what does 2013 hold for the young ace? Best-case 2013: Strasburg is, in the parlance of our times, a beast. He finally can focus without crazy hype or rehab from elbow surgery or an impending innings limit hanging over him. He can just pitch, and he runs away with the Cy Young after throwing 210 innings, the National League's answer to Justin Verlander. ... Worst-case 2013: No measure or precaution could overcome the fickle reality of pitching or the star-crossed nature of Strasburg's career. After a lights-out start, Strasburg's arm betrays him again. He spends time on the disabled list. The Nationals hold their breath.

He needs to fix his mechanics or his arm will betray him again.

In today's game with greedy players you only get so many chances to win the big prize and I thought the GM of the Nats lost a golden opportunity in 12 to win the big prize by sitting Strastburg.

the right thing to do here with strasburg?? reduce the amount of innings played?? reduce the amount of games played??and started him in the last days of may, with this game plans the nationals would be able to play him untill playoff time,,,

the nationals rotation was by far a solid rotation, very few holes in nationals rotation were observed, but when the team shot down strasburg the team did create a big hole in their rotation,,,,

the team needs to secure their top pitchers in their rotation, unless they like to add more T,J surgey,,, and that won't be to adviceable to be honest here!!

Agreed. As a Braves fan, I think they should rest him a couple of more years.... just in case.

Strasburg is the MLB equivalent of an NFL running back with too many carries in college.

Cross your fingers, make a sign of the cross, hold your breath. Whatever works every 5th day.

I hope he does well!
