Bowl season's most lopsided matchup

08:22 AM ET 01.01 | Though the bowl season is a long one, providing a postseason home for so many teams, not all meetings set up as ideal on paper. The Heart of Dallas Bowl kicks off the sporting New Year on Tuesday, and it's a misnamed matchup. If anyone had a heart, OSU would not be playing Purdue. OSU would be in a better bowl, befitting a team that tied for third in the Big 12. And Purdue, already cursed by administrators who fired their coach after the regular season, would not be playing a foe so ill-suited for Boilermaker success. The Vegas crowd picks this game as the most lopsided of the bowls. The Cowboys are 17-point favorites, and it would be a surprise if it's closer than that.

I thought the USC/Georgia Tech game was supposed to be the most lopsided.

I was gonna change my pick in the LUS Pickem after they announced the injuries but I let it play out. Purdue should get their **** handed to em but you never know who is gonna show up at these bowl games.

The bowl season is kind of a farce when the only other undefeated team isn't in it. Every win from here on out, up to and including the national championship is devalued, and can only be viewed as suspect since we'll never truly know.

Disagree.
Don't see many espousing this same view.
The winner of this year's BCS championship game will not have an asterisk next to it.
There are rules, and when you violate them and get caught, there are penalties to pay.
Don't think anybody is feeling sorry for your team.

Contrary to what you say about the national championship being devalued, the ratings for this year's game promise to be amongst the highest in history.

Ohio State: HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HA HA HA HA!!!!

They got caught cheating. That is what happens. Are they supposed to get some special rule that says "Even though you were caught cheating, it doesn't matter."? Nope, not likely.

There's the operative word: caught.Tressel was too clumsy and obtuse to do it right. UFM will bring his SEC skills to combat this oversight. Keeping Andy Staples "Cheating For Dummies: Your Guide to Smarter NCAA Rule-Breaking" handy will be essential also.

Did UM have to turn in the SEC Cheaters Handbook when he left?

I heard that he copied it all at Kinko's late one Sat night before he left...said heartburn was keeping him up anyway...

oSu rolled Purdue and smoked them like a Bob Marley doobie, lol.

No unranked team should EVER be in a bowl game.

January 1, 2013  08:10 PM ET

Well they covered that spread.
