Mariners, Marlins have discussed Stanton deal

For the Marlin's that would be guys with a pulse...

The owner of the Marlins may be a first class jerk but he's not stupid. He won't be trading Stanton. He's the only marketable player left on the Marlins.

I would retort that he made a bundle through league revenue sharing for a couple of years without spending money on his own team. It wasn't until the other owners took notice of this that he started spending money on FA's for his new ballpark. Now, he's back to his old ways.

He did a nice job of convincing the county commissioners in Dade to help fund his new ballpark. He's taking everybody for a ride in South Florida and is getting rich doing it.

It was the worst opening in the modern history of new stadiums. It is doubtful that they made any money in their first season, which is unimaginable. He has completely alienated even the most casual of fans, finished 2nd to Castro in most hated and will be lucky to draw 1.3 million this year. Yes, stupid.

Precisely why he did the salary dump.

The only good thing that has happen for the Mariners this off season is they will not finish in last place in their division anymore with the addition of Houston.

You can look at this from two different perspectives. I think you're looking at it from a pissed off fan's perspective, which I can understand. I'm looking at it from a business perspective. This **** would rather pocket league, public and private revenue instead of re-investing those money back into his own club.

I'm not a pissed fan. I'm a former executive from the baseball business. There is no more "public revenue" in this deal. In fact, Loria had to spend $160 million of his own money, much of which he borrowed. The league in certainly not going to let him share salary cap penalties with a two year old ballpark, plus their violation of those rules three years ago. They will be back to a nightly attendance of 15,000 announced with 11,000 in the park this season. This franchise will never succeed now unless there are new owners.
