UTEP, SMU and Houston interested in MWC

08:14 AM ET 01.02 | The MWC may not be done yet. Why stop at 11? With the feeble state of the Big East and a wide-open lane to take control of the smaller conference realm, the Mountain West has room to get aggressive after Boise State decided to stay in the Mountain West and eschew the Big East. Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson said [Monday] the league has been in talks with 3-5 teams. San Diego State -- which originally planned to join the Big East in a package deal with Boise -- is one of them. A league source says UTEP, SMU and Houston have recently shown interest in becoming members. BYU is the biggest prize available, but the Cougars seem committed to independence -- at least for now.

Conference realignment sucks

Not sure the dollars make sense for BYU to go anywhere but the B12.

Big 12 seems to be liking the full round robin that 10 teams allows. But, stuff like that doesn't seem to matter, only $$$$$$$$$$$$$ does. So...............

Conference realignment should be one of the banned phrases for 2013.

That's what they say, but missing out on the $$$ associated with a conference champ game has to be considered as well. You know the TV execs would love to have a champ game back.

I like the fact that B12 plays 10 conf games. It would not be as exciting to play 8 conf games and 4 ooc creampuffs.

Must be the new math. They only play 9 conference games; unless of course they are playing with themselves. ;-)

LOL! I stand corrected!

Cincinnati and UConn should hold out for the ACC.
They'll get invited once the Big 10, SEC and Big 12 swoop in and demolish the ACC's current membership roster.

I believe the raiding of the ACC will not begin in earnest until the $50 million exit fee issue is resolved. If/when Maryland leaves paying significantly less, then the process will heat up.

At least you don't get the scheduling inequities that put certain teams in the NCG...UF got royally screwed with the conference rotation <hit this year...and I'm not even a belly draggin' homer.

+1.

50 large will make most ADs and Prezs think twice about their decisions.
