Why Stanford's win wasn't enough

08:15 AM ET 01.02 | Stanford has done its part, winning at least 11 games over the past three seasons, each of which included a significant departure, and taking the Granddaddy of Them All. But an unexceptional aesthetic performance against an unimposing opponent Tuesday in the 99th Rose Bowl left Stanford putting on its best face and graciously accepting no more than it earned. Victory, though mildly unsatisfying. Ultimate success despite visible flaws. Stanford's 20-14 win over Big Ten representative Wisconsin won't silence those not ready to place the program among the nation's best. It won't keep folks from dismissing the Pac-12 as softer and slower and gentler than the heralded Southeastern Conference.

There sure are a lot of "soft" Stanford kids in the NFL...and the NFL is very interested in some of their currently "soft" kids.
Me thinks someone is wrong.

I mentioned about a week ago, that the Rose Bowl was going to be boring this year!!!! Stanford is a very solid team that seems to play close, boring games. It is what is it, with Stanford.

True, but I don't think anyone had Stanford winning the RB before the season began, especially given the experience at QB.

Does this writer realize that Stanford has lost (including bowl games) 5 games the last three years and two of those losses were to Oregon. Also why do these writers always include Vandy, Tennessee, Miss, Miss State, Kentuky, Missouri, Arky and Auburn in their comment, "particularly those teams hailing from the almighty SEC"???

+1.
Solid program turning out solid results and sending solid players to the NoFunLeague. Whiners gonna whine though.

Jada, I agree!!! Most fans had Stanford as a middle of the pack, 12 PAC team, ever since Luck went to the NFL. I'm not too sure what "Almighty" SEC team this writer is comparing Stanford to????

IMO, Wisconsin shouldn't have been in the Rose Bowl, but what are you going to do??? The Big 10 and the 12 PAC have an agreement!!!

It sounds like this "writer" has a bone to pick with Stanford and the PAC. It appears he is claiming the winner of the conference doesn't belong in the same conversation with the SEC. I don't know why though. Sounds like a personal problem IMO.

Let me get this straight. Stanford's win wasn't a stunning blowout so they can't be considered one of the nation's best? They've gone 12-1. 11-2, 12-2 the last 3 years. That looks like some of the best to me.
Media types created the SEC myth in order to sell products, and stoopid people have bought into it. This is a story for the stoopid people.

Congrats to Stanford. It was a great year & they proved to have staying power. To win w/o Luck and the fairly-new HC, all should be impressed with their accomplishments. MOST CFB teams would love to have thier outlook as a program going forward.
All the rest is just static......congrats on a great year and good luck in 2013
