Guessing the deadline passes with no action. It would freeze negotiations immediately. The player vote was the real spark that it was intended to be.

I wouldn't draw that conclusion at all. What's the point of filing a disclaimer if both sides are still talking. The date was self imposed. There's no rule that says the disclaimer can't be filed beyond Jan 2. I suspect that if this round of discussions doesn't pan out, the disclaimer will be filed and all hell will break loose.

Either a deal is imminent or, the NHL outmaneuvered the players into thinking a deal is imminent so they would let the deadline pass. Then they can continue with "negotiations" till the cows come home. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Players can still file after Jan 2.

Anyone see the Russia vs Swiss game ? Most excellent ! Excellent that is until a crucial medal round game is decided by shoot out...........# not right , # not hockey

Say what we will about Fehr, but he certainly is better at representing the players than Goodenow (and many others) was. We don't like the results, but he is doing the job the players wanted him to do.

Yes, but the threat still exists and with the overwhelming vote in favor of decertifying it won't be hard to go thru the motions again.
