Report: Jake Matthews staying for senior season

05:03 PM ET 01.02 | The 2013 NFL Draft's offensive tackle class has taken a major blow. It is believed that Texas A&M Aggies offensive tackle Jake Matthews will return to College Station for his senior season. The report comes from a source close to Matthews says he "would be shocked" if Matthews made the jump to the NFL. A big reason for Matthew's decision to return to the Aggies is that he wants to put together a full season of tape at left tackle. Matthews, who is graded as a first-round talent, is ranked by many as the No. 2 offensive tackle prospect behind his teammate Luke Joeckel. The decision to return could play in Matthews' favor and make him some serious cash. Instead of being a top 10 or top 15 draft pick in 2013, Matthews could return to school and work his way toward becoming a top five selection in 2014.

Found out he wasn't likely a first rounder?

Even if he was and the difference in one year is a top ten pick vs end of the round can mean alot of cash....

He's projected as the 2nd OL on the board, but wants to put together a full season of tape?

I guess they want more money. And if I was them, maybe I would, too. I'd like to think I'd rather want to go to a team that might win the Superbowl. So, if he goes real high, he'll probably end up on Kansas City or The Browns.

He's an OL, likely smart & wanting to finish his studies as well as improve his marketing material and relative position for a possible NFL career.

Thought I would let you know....I'm channeling my inner-Sooner self and heading to the Cotton Bowl with my dad this afternoon. Surprised him with tix as a Christmas present. This will be his first OU game this year.
Sad thing is....spent a ton on tickets, and I'm going to root for a tie, only b/c both teams can't lose!!! :-)
Good luck to the land theives!!!

Left tackles tend to get paid more than right tackles do.

May also be a little incentive to get to play for a year with his brother.

There is NO DOUBT he is a top 11 pick. There is no way he would make it past the San Diego pick. He's better than Lewan. He's better than Fischer. He may even be better than Joekel in the long run. That's a lot of money to play with. In football, you're always an injury away.

He's a legitimate top 10. He wouldn't make it past 11 in San Diego where he would definitely be used as a left tackle. Whoever said he's a 2nd round pick is smoking something funny. If he has legitimate educational goals that he needs to pursue I applaud his choice. If it's a football thing, I think he should declare for this year's draft.
