08:00 AM ET 01.03 | Rex Ryan has reportedly taken off for the Bahamas, from which he is likely to return with an update on his coaching staff. Though no official decision has been made on New York Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, sources told ESPNNewYork.com that [Ryan] wants to bring in a new coordinator, and former San Diego Chargers coach Norv Turner is said to be on his short list. While many fans and media have speculated that Sparano will be fired after one season with the Jets, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press the Jets have not made a decision. ... The Jets' offense struggled mightily this season, finishing 30th. The team is looking for a new general manager after owner Woody Johnson fired Mike Tannenbaum on Monday.

Rexy: "Pay no attention to that iceberg over there. Everything's great. I'm going to the Bahamas for a little R & R, but it's all gonna be great." How does he do it?

The J-E-T-S were the definition of dysfunction in 2012, and Rex survives the biggest Black Monday anyone has seen in a long time.
Go figure. I guess it really must have been cheaper to keep him.

Does Rex still think he could have already won a Super Bowl with Norv's Chargers team?

Bahamas ...newsflash...
Greenpeace volunteers have been frantically working to return a whale that has beached itself to the ocean... after several hours of struggling with the beast, someone noticed it was actually Rex Ryan, sunning himself...

Having been in SD during histwo reigns, i.e., the Norv as HC and the Norv as OC ( a couple of years earlier) he was the better at limiting LT than any team's defensive coordinator ... I don't know if he's such a great OC as his rep sez. That rep was built upon a team (Cowboys) with a great offensive line and QB (Aikman), RB (Emmet) and receivers. Just my opinion.

Norv will go somewhere next year as an OC, improve their offense dramatically, and then "get the urge" to become a head coach again. Then some other owner of a team that is struggling on offense and can't win games will hire ole Norv as a Head Coach for '14...and the cycle will continue. You can add Wade Phillips, the Ryan twins, Romeo Crennel, and several others to the list.
There seems to be a fairly large group of coaches (and growing) who are great coordinators but are just not cut out to be a head coach. The problem is that they all think they can one day be a great head coach (despite overwhelming evidence that they can't) and there's always an owner who thinks, "This time it will be different." Insanity.

Old news...I said it even before Norv was canned in San Diego. His offensive scheme will open up things for the Jets. Unfortunately, I think Rex is only going to have one year left, because Tannenbaum hamstrung the Jets salary cap to such a degree that it will be hard for this team to win 4 games next year.
Unless Woody understands that Rex can't do anything with the lack of talent he's left with, due to the former GM, then Ryan will be looking for work a year from now...along with Norv, again.
