Cruz seeking raise from $540K to $8-10M

08:06 AM ET 01.03 | Victor Cruz's rise within the Giants organization, if it is to keep him, will cost Big Blue dearly. Cruz is set to become a restricted free agent and he's not going anywhere, as the Giants know they cannot operate their offense without his skills at receiver. They would likely tender him on a one-year deal if they cannot agree on a long-term contract. After playing for the NFL minimums the past three years, Cruz won't come cheap, not after two outstanding seasons by a 26-year-old on the upside of his career. His asking price is expected to be somewhere between $8 million and $10 million per year. Cruz made $540,000 this season and the last two years he has been the greatest bargain in the league.

Cruz def balls out but no way tha giants sign him to that kind of scratch

January 3, 2013  08:32 AM ET

Pay the man, and get us back to the superbowl next season!

January 3, 2013  08:37 AM ET

There are lesser talents making that kind of money....sign him, not the person to cheap out on. He's a class act.

January 3, 2013  08:46 AM ET

of course he is but at tha same time tha g-men dont pay wr's that kind of coin, they jus let them walk

Giants are notoriously frugal when it comes to negotiating contracts, and they're not afraid to let people go (Steve Smith, Kevin Boss, Mario Manningham), but Cruz is worth keeping. He is indeed a class act, on and off the field; and what he is asking for is in the range of franchise tag money.

Nope - you keep your dependable weapons... and he's dependable.

Reuben Randle came on strong towards the end of the season, so the Giants could let Hixon and Barden go, although their salaries probably don't amount to much.
