Cavs bench Waiters in lineup shakeup

08:10 AM ET 01.03 | C.J. Miles' hot streak earned him a starting role. The long-term future of the Cavs' backcourt still includes Dion Waiters playing alongside Kyrie Irving. That's no longer the short-term plan, however. Coach Byron Scott made the surprising change in his starting lineup on Wednesday, inserting [Miles] and benching rookie Waiters. Scott made the decision on his own, although General Manager Chris Grant didn't try to dissuade him. Scott said he wasn't punishing Waiters or trying to get his attention and others around the team insisted Waiters has done nothing wrong. This is simply Scott's way to try and bring "balance" to a 7-25 team. "I'm just trying to find some balance and make us a better basketball team," Scott said.

The Superstar

Irving
1. Kyrie Irving, Cavaliers

There is Irving and there is everyone else. This class didn't look like it would produce many stars when it entered the NBA, and because Irving played only 11 games in college because of injury, there was doubt that even the top pick was going to be special. Pretty quickly, though, Irving proved that he was going to be very good, then he proved to be even better than that.

Recently, we wrote about (and discussed on TrueHoop TV) the different types of elite point guards in this league, and Irving was mentioned as the player with an incredible skills game -- he ranks amongst the league's best as both a ballhandler and shooter, while doing the same as a shotmaker/scorer. He's basically an offensive machine who is matched by few of his peers.

Put it another way: If he had the athleticism of Russell Westbrook or Derek Rose, Irving would be right up there with LeBron James and Kevin Durant in the running for the "World's Best" title. As it is, he's clearly someone who can compete for an MVP award once his franchise catches up to him and surrounds him with better and more experienced talent.

Two years into his pro career, Irving seems destined for greatness, even gracing the cover of ESPN The Magazine's NEXT issue. How great? By 2015, he will be the best point guard in the NBA. Here's a scouting perspective on why.

Scouts put Irving's dribbling ability right at the top of the league with Chris Paul and Jamal Crawford;

Indeed, Irving's shooting prowess and ability to score in so many different ways make defending him against the pass much more difficult, as is the case with Paul and Steve Nash.

Of course, there are other players who could potentially lay claim to the "Best Point Guard in 2015" title. One can make a case for and against Westbrook, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Ricky Rubio and Rajon Rondo to be the best point guard in 2015, but none brings the combined abilities that Irving brings to the table.

They need to put Waiters back in the starting line up. I really dont think i will help the Cavs win more games then they aready won with him on the bench.
