12:49 PM ET 01.03 | Former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith will likely be interviewed for the vacant coaching position for the Buffalo Bills, WGR 550 reports. Smith was fired from the Bears job on Monday after finishing 10-6 and missing the playoffs following a 7-1 start. The Bears lost five out of six games down the stretch. Smith joins a list of future interviewees for the Bills job that include Oregon Ducks head coach Chip Kelly, who is expected to be interviewed on Friday, and Denver Broncosoffensive coordinator Mike McCoy, who will also be interviewed sometime this weekend, according to reports.

Good for him, Buffalo sure needs help on defense. Chicago may have given up on him, but Bears never had a decent offensive line in my opinion. Get him in town, grab a good offensive coordinator, and get going.

That'd be the right place for him. Out of sight ....

Andy Reid is the only recently unemployed head coach who deserves an immediate head coaching attempt with another team.
If the Bills are indeed interested in tapping any of those other recently fired coaches, I feel sorry for Bills fans because that team is destined for another decade of 4-12 seasons.

Old Ralph is known for being cheap. Lovie probably doesn't want to work for peanuts in an organization that has what, a couple of good running backs and that's it?
This is a Rooney Rule interview. Then Ralph will hire some out-of-work line coach for pocket change.

Ralph Wilson? Cheap? Then who was it that gave Mario Williams the highest grossing contract for a defensive line player in league history? You'd better update your knowledge of the Buffalo Bills, if you think money's the primary object here. The Bills are closer to a winning program than many realize, and they just need to get a better coach. That takes money, yeah - and if you think Wilson's gonna give Mario 100 million - but NOT pay a top line coach to lead this team - then you'd better do some more homework. Personally, I'd like to see Chip Kelly or Ken Wisenhunt get the job; I have concerns about Lovie Smith, and I think Andy Reid's gonna end up somewhere that gives him more power. The Bills aren't going to do that ... and really don't need to. Buddy Nix is a GREAT GM, and they have their brain trust in place. A first-line, talented coach, and another good draft (and maybe a QB trade for Alex Smith), and this team will BE THERE.

Buffalo is bringing him in to stay within the league's rule about interviewing black coaches for openings they have on their coaching staff.

Yup. And if you take out the nearly $10 million for Stupid Mario's cap hit, the Bills would be near the top in available cap space. Thanks to that one stupid signing, they're around the middle.
This was the only time I can recall that Ralph opened his checkbook in free agency. And when you see what it got him, well, maybe he was right to be cheap.

This has been said about nearly every other coach who came to Cleveland, unfortunately. Might as well hand the HC duties over to the practice squad; neither the Browns or the Bills could do much worse with those guys running the show.

Ralph Went after Mike Shanahan and was willing to pay him but Shanahan turned him down and went to Washington. Ralph has signed decent free agents and overpaid to get them in Buffalo. Cheap he is not. Irresponsible with is money, yes. Does he hire bad GM's who spend his money in an unwise fashion? Absolutely. But I wouldnt call him cheap.
