Steelers should cut ties with linebacker James Harrison

01:49 PM ET 01.03 | After a disappointing season, the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be faced with many tough upcoming personnel decisions. One of those revolves around linebacker James Harrison; in fact, it is quite possible Harrison has played his final game in a Steelers uniform. CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that some inside the Steelers organization do not believe the veteran outside linebacker will be back with the team in 2013. Harrison has been slowed by injuries the past two seasons and while he is set to make $6.57 million next season, he will count $10 million against the salary cap in 2013. The Steelers already have handed large extensions to linebackers LaMarr Woodley and Lawrence Timmons and the Steelers likely are not going to be interested in sinking a fortune into one position, so Harrison might be the odd man out. Once a feared pass-rusher in Dick LeBeau's defense, the production simply hasn't been there to warrant paying Harrison big money.

Ok. Harrison, if cut, will be unemployed for about a day.
Look for Baltimore to scoop him up as a temporary replacement for Ray Lewis, and to use his newfound motivation against the Steelers, well, against the Steelers.

I think a cut is coming. The defense would be much more improved though with Palomalu on the field too, but he can't stay healthy.

Well, yeah, just look at that picture. He's skin and bones. Either give the guy a decent meal now and then or use a normal camera lens.

Last year he broke his eye. That's the kind of freak injury that has nothing to do with age or ability. This year he was on a bad knee starting the season, and he figured he could recover as the year went on, but it just never seemed to work out for him.
I think there's no reason to rush. See if he's healthy come July-August, depending on his condition maybe see if he's willing to work out a deal for a pay cut on a one-year deal.

LMFAO!!! 1st, Ravens have no cap money to sign him next season. 2nd, they still have to franchise Joe. 3rd, Ray Lewis plays MLB not OLB and Ellerbe is Lewis' replacement. Last, Paul Kruger as a third down OLB has 7 sacks, Ravens do not need him!

depends on how the ravens lose in the playoffs. Ravens might go another direction at QB if bad Flacco shows up, proving that he has a lower ceiling than they had hoped for.

I never understand why Flacco's name keeps on coming up. Have you ever seen him play in the play-offs especially last season? Do I need to remind you how many times he has played great in several post season and not his fault for not making it all the way to the Superbowl? The Ravens are not dumb enough to dump a durable QB with great potential talent given the right coaches. Heck, there are 20 other teams out there would be willing to overpay a good and proven QB in Flacco.

Pittsburgh is pretty good at knowing when to cut bait. Sans Rod Woodson, not many have gone on to be very productive elsewhere after being released from Pittsburgh. Joey Porter is a perfect example.

James is certainly getting close to the end, but I don't see it happening next year.

Flacco has 5 wins in the post season, that's more than Romo, Ryan, Schaub and Cutler all put together. So if the Ravens are going to dump him are the Cowboys, Falcons, Bears and Texans all doing likewise?

I still think he is still a good player. The man still had 6 sacks and 2FF. I just think he is still recovering from his nasty injury from a couple of seasons ago. The man still had 6 sacks and 2FF. I'm sure he will take a paycut if asked.

You are clueless! If the Raiders can give up 3 first rounders for an over the hill QB and the Chiefs, Cards and Seahawks are willing to pay unproven back ups then yes, there are tons of teams will go after Flacco.

I see the Steelers trading him if anything... doubt they'll cut him, get nothing and risk him going to a divisional rival...
