05:56 PM ET 01.03 | The search for the next New York Jets general manager continues, and Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area is reporting that Tom Gamble, the current director of player personel for the San Francisco 49ers, will interview for the position this weekend. The Jets fired former general manager Mike Tannebaum on Monday after the team failed to make the playoffs for the second year in a row. Gamble has spent the past seven years with his current team and has helped build the 49ers into a power in the NFC. He has 24 years of NFL experience including two with the Jets, where he served as a quality-control defensive assistant in 1995 and 1996. He also has a variety of experience in the professional and college scouting departments and in contract negotiations.

Tannebaum didn't get fired because the Jets missed the playoffs. He took the fall for the Tebow debacle.

As a person in the know, was it Tannebaum who didn't play Tebow or was it Rex? Did Rex extend Sanchez's contract or Tannebaum? How many of his draft picks made the all rookie team while he was there? Yea it was Tebow! All he ever did from Pee Wee to da Pros was Win
What blows my mind is Tebow outplayed guys like Steve Young during his first 2 Years, yes ? Yes they said the same thing about Steve Young, you know that Hall of Fame Lefthanded quarterback who would never make it in THE NFL. ??Steve Young that's pretty heavy! By the way the Team that originally drafted Steve Young, traded him as well after his second year, who do you think is Smarter, The Tampa Bay Bucs or The San Francisco Giants, oh one more thing, ??the Bucs got there perfect pocket passing Quarterback, Vinny Teserverde, let's see who would I rather have Vinny, or Steve? One more thing it took Steve Young 7 Years to develop, should you give Tebow similar time he just might surprise all of us! Tebow won more games, thru more touchdowns and won a game in the playoffs, Young sat and watched. The fact of the matter is Tebow might never get a chance to prove himself, but nobody can take away his accomplishments. They never gave the guy a chance it's one thing to fail another thing, not get a chance too prove Failure or success!
