08:07 AM ET 01.04 | The disappointment still burns. It has only been four days since the end of the season and yet Coughlin hasn't come close to letting go of the disappointment of his Giants not qualifying for the playoffs one year after winning the Super Bowl. "I can't even describe how it hurts ... I don't know what to do," Coughlin said Thursday during a high-energy 30-minute session on WFAN. "I'm walking around here like a crazy man. I am. I don't know what to do with myself. We shouldn't be doing this right now. The pain of it is almost indescribable." Coughlin said he's been at the team facility "taking it all apart right now as a coaching staff, and hopefully we can provide some answers."

Happens to most SB winning teams the next year. They think they can step on the gas when they have to and win to get back in the playoffs and then they'll really focus to get to the top. Only the really elite teams and coaches can play each game like it's their last. G-men will be back, too much talent, they just need to re-focus.

In the last 4 years the Giants have averaged 9 wins in a weak division. What does he expect with an average offense and a bad defense this year?

And the Pats have averaged 12 wins a year and no superbowls the last eight years ( 2012 TBA). Does playing in a weak division nullify that record? Only 6 of your 16 games are division games. Note the Giants had the toughest rated schedule in 2011 and 2012. Matters not, his team averaged two superbowl wins the last four years, that is his perspective.
Some flawed team will win this years superbowl because every team is flawed. But that team willl band should be considered the best team in the NFL for the year. period.

+1. Only 1 or 2 teams seem to get hot at the right time each year. Last year was the Giants' turn, this year it's not. Lighten up Tom or you'll give yourself a coronary.

the reason teams in other divisions win 12-14 games a year is because they are in WEAK divisions with a bunch of easy wins from division opponents. NFC East is the only division where every game is a war because the teams are all decent...

so the nfc-west a few years ago were all decent teams [s.f., seatt, ramz, ariz.].....i think they were lucky to get to 8-8,...i think 7-9 gottem to a playoff-gm too. ; )

The point is that the Giants are a very average team. Anything over .500 is a bonus. They are the epitome of consistent mediocrity, and you can't plan on getting lucky every year.

a few years ago, Warner was QB in AZ and they WERE decent...now, SF is the decent team of the division and the others suck for the most part...NFC West was always good for providing some wins to teams from another division...

But you got to give them Credit, they were well rested in that soft division to win 2 Super Bowls!
