08:23 AM ET 01.04 | Lockout vocabulary can be a dizzying hail of terms -- disclaimers of interest, Hockey Related Revenues, compliance buyouts, variance, escrow, pension liability -- but so much of it revolves around one single word: money. Essentially, they are fighting over US$150-million in salary cap space in 2013-14, which might be clawed back by escrow anyway. They are fighting over pensions, which the league had previously agreed to, and which constitutes a rowboat of potential financial liability in what will eventually be a small ocean of revenue. They are fighting over a number of structural niceties that, in the end, are not a hill that anybody should die on. ... They are using the clock, jockeying for whatever is left. This is the calculated bravado that grips the endgame.

Pitiful.

Squabbling over such a piddly amount considering the larger pie.

For shame, NHL and NHLPA, for shame!

Too many issues left wide open for anyone to think that this season can be saved.

Well, Aussie, I can tell you, you'll never find me squabbling over a pitiful, measly $150-million.

Roamer, to the layperson $150 million is not a piddly amount, I don't disagree there, but to this league when they are claiming revenues of 3.3 Billion, it's but short change considering the big picture.

Would you or I fight for this amount, you betcha, but when gridlock is based on any amount of money that is being contested by Millionaires and Billionaires, you cannot tell me that it doesn't strike you in either a cynical vein, or bring derision to the fore.

Well, Aussie, what I meant to say is: Since I've taken to them poverty vows, you'd have to add at least a couple of zeros to that $150M figure to gain my interest. Such insignificant amount does not warrant defiling my soul for. ;-)

Alright you got me there, mate lol

I would have to ask though, is it that you took a vow of poverty or poverty was thrust upon you?

It's actually a bit of both when father time bites you in the arse and thrusts retirement, social security and pension upon you. :-(

I love it when $150 million becomes chump change.
