09:19 AM ET 01.05 | The NHL and NHLPA each met separately with a federal mediator throughout the day and into the evening Friday. The two sides plan to continue the process Saturday. For the second straight day, the league and union met separately. Mediation meetings started at 9 a.m. CST and ran until shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday, with federal mediator Scot L. Beckenbaugh going back-and-forth between the NHLPA's hotel and the league office. However, there is no decision on when large-group negotiations will resume.

One positive thing that could come out of a season cancellation is that Bettman (should) be seen as the guy who just can't get it done and we can start 2013 with a fresh commissioner. That would be fantastic for the game!!

You know Canuck, if there's one thing business life has taught me is that lawyers do not make good lead negotiators, it usually ends up a train wreck because they see demons everywhere. You need a clever guy who understands and loves the business to lead that process who then hires the necessary legal skill to seal the T's and C's. It shouldn't have come to this...........again!!!

I'd say we have 5 more days of this crap and suddenly everything will work out.

Hows that for a fence sitter, Bettman.

I think a lot of us are seriously fed up with these failed negotiations....and false hopes. Just cancel the season already.

That sounds about right. They will all be freinds and congratulate each other for being fair and wise at the negotiating table.
