Report: Colt McCoy in Chip Kelly's plans

09:28 AM ET 01.05 | It looks as though owner Jimmy Haslam III, C.E.O. Joe Banner, and the Browns organization have found their next head coach and his name is Chip Kelly. The next big question to be answered, however, is who will be the quarterback? A source in the Browns' organization told ESPN Cleveland that just over a week ago Banner told backup quarterback Colt McCoy he is "in the next head coach's plans." Adam Caplan of Sirius/XM NFL Radio reported earlier tonight that Michael Lombardi, who is rumored to be the next GM, has already been angling for the Browns in free agency. If you combine both of these reports it is pretty obvious that the Kelly/Lombardi regime did not just materialize in the last 24 hours. As far as Brandon Weeden, who started all but one game for the Browns last season, he may end up the odd man out.

Yikes.... would you take a job where you firwst major decision is Colt McCoy or Brandon Weeden? I think I'd be looking into how tight of a spiral Trent Richardson can throw.

" it is pretty obvious that the Kelly/Lombardi regime did not just materialize in the last 24 hours."
No kidding. Does anyone really think a $9 billion a year plus industry really just waits until the last minute to contact prospective top employees for its franchises, cold calls the guy at the last minute and that person just jumps on a plane and flies across country to interview for some job he just learned about?

Really, Kelly knew a month ago where he was going and so did Andy Reid.

If Kelly is the new coach of the Browns, then I will give credit to the team for making a potentially bold move. It could backfire, but the Browns suck, and you have to take a chance.
As for the QB, I would like to see the team stick with one of these guys for a year or two. Either could do the job, but they need weapons on offense, and they need a coach to have a little faith in them. Too often, coaches and OCs are changed regularly, but the blame falls on the QB.
Look at Mark Sanchez. Six years in the league, six different OCs. No wonder he can't play. Imagine if the guy had someone like Belichik and McDaniels every year.

What really amazes me is he was in Phoenix, looked around and went right to Cleveland and signed up for HC. Tell me it was the money.

Ryan's mind games with the QB's... especially Tebow, was a big factor in the epic meltdown as well. Can't believe he survived the mess he created.

Go chase the money Chip, good for you but you do realize you can't just hand a bag cash to kids with 4.3 speed to get them on the team? Ask Nick Saban for advice.

The deal is far from over as Chip is meeting with both the Bills and Eagles today. Both teams can offer him what he is looking for so I would say that Chip has a tough decision ahead of him.
Its been reported that the Browns will be meeting with him later so by interviewing with other teams he could be using it as leverage or just wants examine all options? I would say its a bit of both!
I'm a huge Browns fan but I don't know what to think of Kelly? I would rather they go the Whisenhunt direction as he is a proven coach and knows the AFC north very well. He did wonders with Ben but after that he relied heavily on sub par QB's (post Warner) and couldn't get things done. Nobody really knows what the Browns have in Weeden or McCoy because they really were put into a tough situation with Shurmur and his lack of coaching. I guess time will tell if this HUGE gamble with Kelly works?

I think that is fair to say, especially for Reid who probably knew half way through the season that he would not be coming back to Philadelphia. I think Kelly has been mulling his decision for over a year.
The other Head Coach who knew he'd be fired is Norv Turner. If Turner sits out 2013 then bet assured that in 2013 Dallas underachieves again that Turner will be their coach in 2014. If Turner decides to coach in 2013 I think it will be with Arizona. I think Turner likes living in warmer climates.
