Matt Barkley will miss Senior Bowl

06:23 PM ET 01.05 | USC Trojans star quarterback Matt Barkley missed the final two games of the season after sustaining an AC sprain in his shoulder against the UCLA Bruins. Barkley's injury cost him a crucial rivalry game against Notre Dame, as well as the bowl game against Georgia Tech. USC would lose both games with redshirt freshman Max Wittek at the helm, but Wittek showed plenty of flashes (including a cannon arm) that indicate he can be an All-Conference type talent for USC with some more seasoning. According to a tweet from Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal, Barkley will not play in the Senior Bowl due to the shoulder injury. This doesn't affect Barkley's draft stock directly, but it does place an even great strain on him to perform better at the Combine and during USC's Pro Day. This is one less opportunity for Barkley to turn his draft stock upward, because he has fallen in scouts' minds and is viewed by some as a late first-round pick after once being regarded as a clear top 10 pick.

I will never bash a kid, ANY kid who wants to play 4 years in college. Yeah, he probably lost some money in the short term, but I think he will do well in life. Whichever direction it takes him.

Oh no, I can't handle this, OMG!!!! The Senior Bowl is the game I have circled on my calendar every year. The best and most exciting game of the season. They call this game, "The showcase of the Immortals" for a reason. I will never forget Tim Tebow's Craptacular performance previewing his skills outside the Gator line-up.
You were a good man, Matt Barkley. We'll all miss you here at Fannation.

Very good college QB. It seems there may be questions about how good he will be in the NFL, who knows. I have nothing against him and wish him the best. He made the best out of a bad situation regarding the NCAA sanctions.
Rightly or wrongly, he made a strong decision to stay in school and you gotta respect him for that, no matter for what reason. He passed up millions this year for something more than money.
Kudos to Matt Barkley
