09:45 AM ET 01.06 | It's far too early to talk about the possibilities, but the Padres are one of the clubs the Miami Marlins have talked to regarding right-handed, power-hitting right fielder Giancarlo Stanton. The 23-year-old Stanton hit .290 with 37 homers and 86 RBI in 123 games for the Marlins last season. He also had a .361 on-base percentage and a National League-leading .608 slugging percentage. In 373 major league games, the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Stanton has a .270 average with 93 homers and 232 RBI. Stanton has apparently fallen out of favor with the Marlins due to his vocal criticism of the moves Miami has made recently to rid themselves of many of their front-line players and a majority of their payroll.

After spending over half of the 12 season at Triple A Cox got a wake up call after being traded to the Fish and was sent to Double A to finish the season and those long bus rides that comes with it.

Keep up the criticism Stanton. It seems to be your only hope of playing on a major league team.

Marlins are fishing (pardon the pun) for a huge haul. I wouild love to see the Marlins have an actual owner who cares about winning. How cool would it be to see the team owned by Mark Cuban (yes, I see what I did), who definitely wants to win.

nothing its for sure as we all know,, teams look good in paper but who knows??

Who wouldn't want to have this kid? The Marlins of Course!!!!

Paging Mr Cashman...

The Marlins will want at least a small haul of players...and players who are protected for years...meaning prospects....a lot of prospects....no matter how much this kid complains, Loria won't give him away for what the Yanks or Red Sox can offer...he may be clueless and a money grubbing loser...but I cannot imagine him just letting him walk for a bag of baseballs....

This guy reminded me of the young Albert Pujols and would love to see him in the"birds on the bat".The Marlins would be insane to let a 23 yr. old with his skill get away!

shame the blue jays wasted all their best prospects on RA Dickey

January 7, 2013  02:13 AM ET

would love to see him come to SD! they have the prospects to get it done and it would help revitalize baseball in SD!! get it done!
