Will free agents boycott hardline NHL owners?

10:35 AM ET 01.06 | Once this is over, and it is far more likely than not that Owners' Lockout III will conclude with an agreement in principle by sunset following yesterday's productive meetings, how great would it be in the future if free agents simply refused to sign with the Bruins as long as they are owned by Jeremy Jacobs and with the Maple Leafs for as long as Brian Burke serves as the team's general manager? Seriously. The players will still retain the right to choose under the new collective bargaining agreement, even if choices will be limited to some degree at least for the first couple of years of a new CBA. Each individual will thus have the right to say no to the men in the boardroom who did their best throughout this lockout to ensure the players' options would be limited in the future.

It would be great if they did, but they will go where they get the most money. Like 99% of all players.

It's the fans who need to boycott, not the players. Hit these a**holes in the pocketbook, and hit them hard.

I'm with you there. No more Center Ice package for me. I'll watch for free or listen on the radio.

As I wrote on the other thread, I've gone to the Gaaahden for the last time as long a Jacobs owns the B's. He'll get no more of my money.

The players are all mercenaries and you are correct, they will go to where the most money is on the table.

For the most part you are correct, but if all things ($$$$$) are equal, there may be some hard feelings.

No BGM i've moved on. Will i glance at a game while flipping through channels sure. But i have 2 boys that play and have been attending the local Jr B and Jr C games. Way better product than the watered down garbage the NHL offers.

I expect they are going to find it harder(than other teams to sign free agents) and some will out and out blow them off but today who cares there's going to be HOCKEY

You'd hope but there are going to be some resentful players although in the craziness of getting a job this season doubt that'll happen in the off-season I can see players ignoring calls from certain hardline teams (no different than ignoring calls from non contending teams )

I see you have moved on..thats the NHL's loss....maybe a Boston-New York play-off match-up will pull you out of your self-imposed hibernation in the future.

I really wish that would be the case but everyone knows it is never going to happen.
-Especially players going to Boston, who was the biggest issue this whole time throughout the lockout. It really was pathetic.
But you are the New York Post and you want people there to read so you post things that no one believes only to cause a story that doesn't exist. Just as Pathetic.

I don't see it happening. The Bruins are a well run organization two years removed from hoisting the cup. The core of that team remains and they are almost all signed to deals that will keep the team competitive for some years. The players and their agents will not hesitate to do business with Boston no matter how much the Jeremy Jacob haters dislike it.
