Lincecum, Floyd, Garza available?

08:08 AM ET 01.07 | Depending how things go, righties Matt Garza of the Cubs, Gavin Floyd of the White Sox, and even Tim Lincecum of the Giants could be attractive on the trade market. Hard to read the Cubs, since they're building for the future while also signing veteran pitchers. Garza still has to show teams in spring training that his injured elbow is OK; the Cubs would listen on a possible deal. Floyd remains one of the more attractive pitchers who could be had. ... [With] some younger pitchers ready to step into that rotation, [Floyd] is expendable. As for Lincecum, the Giants feel they'll straighten out his mechanical defects. But he is making $22 million this season, and if he's not what he used to be, the Giants may be enticed.

I get a stiff neck just watching Timmy pitch.

What are the chances he becomes a reliever/closer ala Mariano?

I don't think much of one - he had lost velocity as well. And the ball was up a lot in the strike zone - until he keeps it where it belongs - he's not long for the league at all IMHO...

Good point. He throws how he throws. With a $22MM contract, trading for him would be a huge gamble.

Depends what the Giants would want for him. If they're just looking to dump the contract, a team with money (Yankees, Red Sox) it could be worth the gamble. It's only one season and if he returns to the little Timmy of 2011 it would put you right into contention.

Even for the big money teams, $22MM is a lot to risk on a guy with a 5+ era last year.

If Lincecum can't pitch as a starter then let him pitch as a reliever, this past post-season he made the difference as a reliever and did a heck of a job,,,,

Lincecum has two ways in his pitching schedule, the giants could use him as a starter and when things aren't working well for the pitcher?? the giants should use him as a long reliever,,,

I like the part about: "and if he's not what he used to be, the Giants may be enticed."
He had an off year, had developed some bad habits mechanically, and rumor has it he was trying to break up with his long time love Mary Jane...
He looked damn good in the playoffs and even in an off year, his K total and hits to IP weren't horrible...
At 28 - 29... He'll be back...

Exactly, ONE off year. If you were the Giants owner you wouldn't trade Lincecum unless you were getting someone like Miguel Cabrera or Mike Trout.

Lincecum is going nowhere... Timmy brought this underdog and diminutive attitude to the Giants and they have used to it to get two titles. Timmy is a lot more than just a pitcher to the Giants...
