08:13 AM ET 01.07 | So much for the threat of never coming back to the NHL. Capitals star left wing Alex Ovechkin will return to Washington early this week to prepare for a shortened 2012-13 season, according to his IMG agent, David Abrutyn. Multiple times during the NHL labor dispute, Ovechkin suggested that he and other Russian players might not return to North America if the new collective bargaining agreement drastically cut their contracts. Despite those comments, it seemed unlikely that Ovechkin would opt not to return to the Capitals. ... Ovechkin, who has lost $4,281,081 during the lockout, spent the work stoppage playing for his hometown Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League. He finished with 19 goals and 21 points in 31 games.

Hehe

Really Harry, as if his return was ever in doubt.

I am actually looking forward to him play under Oates. More offensive coach might get him rolling again.

C'mon. He is giving up $89.43 a week and planes with a rubber band on the propellers to come back here and slave for a another $4 million plus. God, you gotta admire the selfless love of the game. :-)

I hope you're right. I thought he was sulking for at least part of the regular season last year. He reappeared briefly in the playoffs but I think he was sucking his thumb for about half the year.

I'd rather see him play on a line with Oates. He would probably score 80 goals.......to go along with 7 assists.

Rubber bands on the propellers! hahahahahaha

No wonder they can't keep those Tupolev's in the air. Poor quality rubber.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday; wonder how a new system will pan out. I think I heard Jonesy on the local Philly station say he is not even a top 5 fantasy player anymore....

I don't think he's top 15, maybe not even 20. He was 5th in goals, but 37th in pts. With goalies meaning so much to fantasy league these days, and the quality players ahead of him, he'll probably fall that far.

I only care about reality.
