The busiest people, before this deal can be ratified by the players and approved by the owners over the next few days, will be the lawyers for the NHLPA and NHL in drawing up the language of the new collective agreement. The schedule maker also won't get much sleep. ... [The] big question swiftly became when will the players be back on the ice? The exact answer and details still have to be worked out. But it appears there are two possible opening nights for the NHL season at this point. The earliest would be a 50-game schedule beginning on Jan. 15. The latest would be a 48-game docket up-and-running on Jan. 19. That means the earliest training camps could start would be on Wednesday.

I'm excited too. Had they cancelled the season again, I likely would have turned away from the sport entirely for a while, but sometimes ish happens and you gotta suck up a work stoppage regardless of how dumb it is. NBA stopped last year and a month in the only people who remembered that were the coaches whose players were getting injured on the daily.
But, indeed, your status as a lover of the game will never let you lord over the owners.

My comprehension was that buyouts can't take place until summer. Also, realignment apparently isn't happening, but I also heard that for sanity sake they were going to simply switch Columbus and Winnipeg's divisions for this season before developing a better plan for next, so make of that what you will.

Two buyouts can start in June and can be used over 2 off-seasons or can be both used in one off-season.
Realignment will be discussed later, NHL still wants it.

the way the sched will play out won't make much sense for trans continental travel so the Flyers Rangers Caps should spend about 4-5 nights all season in a hotel
