Maualuga unsure of future in Cincy

04:57 PM ET 01.07 | After a disappointing performance in the Bengals' 19-13 playoff loss at the hands of the Houston Texans, linebacker Rey Maualuga is unsure whether or not he will be back with Cincinnati next season. Maualuga said he felt his future with the Bengals hinged on his play during Saturday's game against Houston, and if that's the case, he could be on shaky ground. Maualuga finished with six solo tackles and assisted on four, and he failed to record a sack or tackle for loss. Over the course of the 2012 season, Maualuga compiled 62 solo tackles and 60 assists, and he added one sack and one tackle for loss. His tackle numbers were career highs, but his single tackle for loss was a career low. The Bengals selected Maualuga, a fourth-year player out of USC, in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Agreed. What warrants continuing down the path with this guy? I'm not a Bengals fan, in fact I can't stand the Bengals. But I am a football fan and like other posts before mine wonder why in the heck this guy still has his job in Cincy.

Lewis may or may not deserve the extension, but the team has been in the playoffs two years in a row, and has transitioned over the last few years through a QB change and an overhaul of the defense. He's not Vince Lombardi, but he isn't exactly Chan Gailey either.

His inabiltity to cover was really exposed. He has been very fundamentally sound since he was drafted. Nothing will change in Cincinnati as long as Mike Brown is the Owner/GM. I am not sure how much longer you can keep Marv Lewis...he has gotten then to a certain point, but is probably not the coach to take them to the next level...winning in the playoffs.
Oh, and how has nobody mentioned Jay Gruden. Possibly the worst O-coordinator in the NFL.

I agree. I think we've seen as good as we're going to get from Marvin Lewis while he's with the Bengals.
Too bad Lovie Smith didn't work for Mike Brown... he might still have his job, too.
