Is Geno Smith destined to fall to the Cowboys?

07:33 PM ET 01.07 | The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and while projections are still very early, we are beginning to see how the draft might shape up. When we all started, Geno Smith was the No. 1 pick, but only by default. Remember, a few years ago Nick Fairley was projected as the No. 1 pick early on and he ended up going in the teens on draft day. So if he's available at No. 18, will the Cowboys draft Smith as an heir apparent to Tony Romo's rule? In all his years, Romo has failed to get the Cowboys any more than a single playoff win and on most teams, his clock would have expired long ago. Plus, Smith struggled in wild weather situations while at West Virginia, and the Cowboys play in a controlled environment for eight games a season. Drafting Smith doesn't mean he'll immediately usurp Romo, but at the very least the Cowboys have a succession plan in place for when Romo is finally finished in Dallas.

Quarterbacks always fly up the draft boards between January and April.
- Today people will say he's definitely not worth the #1 pick.
- A few weeks later they'll stress how quarterback desperate Kansas City and Jacksonville are.
- Then he'll have a great combine.
Before you know it he's going #1 overall.
Happens almost every year.

And if they felt compelled to draft one of those Alabama linemen, I would not be sad.

Yup, teams panic because NFL play is CRUCIAL to success in the NFL. But a lot of times it's safer to build up the lines and problem areas first by trading down, e.g. KC this year, for picks and just go with the QBs you got and then when in a better position go for the QB you believe in and maybe a backup the same year in the later rounds. In other words the missing piece to being a SB contender, that's the best way to go IMO.

They need to test Romo for colorblindness. He's never sure which color jersey to throw to.

We don't need the Cowboys making logical decisions like that. They totally need another WR.

Spot on Otis...
Romo's replacement is not in this draft unless by miracle.
The Cowboys need to draft the best player, period. Assuming they can not fill the need at RT, RG or DT through Free Agency before the draft, you get the best avail at those positions.

Cowboys should grab Mike Glennon of NCSU if he lasts that long. I'd say he'll be first QB taken but Raiders probably change that.

Dallas needs to get past JJ's all-star team mentality and just build a team. They need character guys, role players who are good teammates and gel the locker room. They need more Jason Witten type personalities.
