Conflicting reports on Gruden interest in Cleveland

07:48 AM ET 01.08 | With Chip Kelly out of the running, it appears Jon Gruden is, too. Contrary to a report from the Cleveland Plain Dealer that the Browns "might" pursue Gruden, a source with direct knowledge of the situation tells PFT that Gruden isn't, and won't be, on the Browns' radar screen. Per the source, the Browns also have no interest in making a "splash." ... The latest Gruden rumor comes several weeks after his name was circulated both for jobs at the University of Tennessee and with the Oakland Raiders. It appears that the latest leaked item could be aimed at generating interest in Cleveland or elsewhere at a time when Gruden apparently is ready to consider returning to the game -- but no one seems to be banging on his door.

Why would Gruden want to coach in Cleveland "the mistake on the lake" when he could have a much better job working at the local Dairy Queen.

Out of the booth and into oblivion. It's a great idea for the fans.

The Cavaliers and the Browns seem to have the same cultures. Good luck finding anybody worth hiring.

There goes our best chance to get Gruden out of the booth. Now it's another season to listening to him ruin the Monday night game.

Before the season, our lunch group made predictions for the SB, I picked New England and the 49ers...

I'm kind of liking the Seahawks. Didn't see it coming in but they could be that wild card getting hot at the right time

It could be. But, Saturday night the Packers took care of business like a championship team. Something's off in San Francisco, perhaps the quarterback issue, and I see the Packers winning there.
Playoff football is different. There's something about a team that's been in a lot of playoff games vs. a team that's new to the idea. That's the only thing I've got against the Seahawks, but I think it's enough to keep them out of the Superbowl this year.
I think the Pats should handle Houston, and then it's on to Denver. I'm hoping for cold and snow in Mile-High. Patriot weather. Sorry, Peyton. No dome.

The Pack looked good, but they've looked good against bad teams all season. The Vikes were an entirely different offense with Webb under center. The Pack knew they could put the majority of their focus on containing AP and throttle the Vikes offense in the process. If the Pack makes it past the 49ers, they'll likely play against Seattle, and that game could get ugly early for Green Bay. Seattle is the team everyone should be worried about.

They have the type of game that translates well on the road... Tough D and a hell of a running game.

Seriously doubt that he would...what self respecting coach would?

Agreed. I'm surprised they fired the coach after starting the year with a rookie QB and running back. 2-years didn't seem like a good chance. Go with anyone, but stay away from Gruden -- Jon that is.

Precisely why no team has called him for an interview.

Green bay looked decent, against a team that had no business in the playoffs in the first place. And that team had an ineffective backup in at QB.
Denver or NE is looking good for a championship.
