Phillies still chasing outfielders

07:56 AM ET 01.08 | Philly may be done looking for the home run, but it's not walking away from the plate just yet. The Phillies are still pursuing a corner outfielder, a source said Monday, and the usual suspects remain: Scott Hairston, Vernon Wells, Alfonso Soriano and Michael Cuddyer. But even if the Phils fall short in their pursuit of a veteran outfielder, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said recently the additions of setup man Mike Adams, center fielder Ben Revere, left-hander John Lannan and third baseman Michael Young will help a team that missed the postseason last year for the first time since 2006. "They're maybe not the biggest and sexiest moves, but those are moves that were essential to help our club," Amaro said.

Why not? The rest of those guys aren't going to carry your team.

The Phillies have already traded for a center fielder and Rasmus is not going to carry any team because of lack of power and and is not a run producer. The only one that makes sense for the Phils and would be the cheapest is Soriano because the Cubs would pay the biggest part of his salary just to get rid of him.

the phillies screw their own roster last year, the moment they trade as many players away and left the team with too many holes every where,,,

Maybe, but the Angels would have to pay 90 percent of his salary anyways. Why not keep him as a fourth OF?

Philly needs more than an outfielder or two--- they need a clubhouse leader and they need to unload Four-Nose Cryin Ryan howard--- but Marble Mouth Manuel doesn't have a spine so that won't happen....
