Is this surprising ? College Basketball and Football at the highest level are a business where the employees receive a one year scholarship (that can roll to the next year or not) as payment. Until something changes it is what it is

"I had a few conversations with people about what was best for my family." In other words.. "I told them give me more money or I will pack up my family and leave." Denying he got $1.3 could also mean it was a higher number or just not 1.3.. maybe it was 1.2999999 or 1.4, but not 1.3. lol

What does that say about the Eagles and Browns organizations if Bill O'Brien thinks that PSU is the less toxic atmosphere...?

In most cases I would be on board 100%, but in the case I respectfully disagree; he took on a difficult position knowingly and managed to retain + recruit talent by selling a brand of loyalty and family. Looking elsewhere at the very first opportunity was extremely sleezy and killed his credibility (at least in my eyes).

I would almost bet that Pro teams were offering at least twice what he would/will make at PSU. Is it that unfathomable that someone could have some integrity and want to stay for reasons other than money. His job is going to get more difficult starting next year when the scholorships disappear. It is refreshig to see someone stick with something for once, PSU is not Alabama, ANY pro head coaching job would hold more prestiege and money than most college jobs. Try to see the good in a story once in awhile instead of all the rotten news we are fed on a daily basis.

From what I have read and seen about him, I totally respect him that think what he said is truthful....that might change in a few years, but for now, my hat is off to him...

Let's see... he stayed. That generally is considered commitment. Lurie would probably have thrown $5-6million/year at him. Though I'm sure if some company called you up and offered an interview with a likely substantial raise, you would just flat out say "no" without hearing anything they had to say. Next thing you know you fools will be saying "he looked at a girl on campus, he must be cheating on his wife." Sigh.

Personally I think he deserves a raise for what he did last year - the winning was great, but more important keeping the fans and the team going. His loyalty should be rewarded. I don't see what would be bad about announcing he received a raise - would probably be a big boost to his recruiting - which is already tough enough.
