04:19 PM ET 01.08 | The Mountain West Conference and San Diego State are expected to come to a deal sometime this week, according to CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler. San Diego State and Boise State were scheduled to join the Big East in 2013, Louisville's departure for the ACC and Boise's decision to remain in the Mountain West has caused Aztec officials to reconsider their move.

I never understood why either of those schools wanted to hook up with the Big East. They knew that conference was unstable. They also knew the BCS structure was changing.

I think they got caught up in limbo land...they started it all when there were still AQ conferences and they saw it as a way into the BCS structure...then the AQ imploded so now they don't have to do that...
