Geno Smith declines invitation to Senior Bowl

07:24 PM ET 01.08 | Geno Smith will be following in the steps of Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III from last season, and will be skipping the Senior Bowl. Smith made the announcement on Twitter that he will not be accepting his invitation to play in the college football All-Star game. Many are already questioning Smith's decision to skip the Bowl; when Luck and Griffin III skipped the Senior Bowl last year, it was a foregone conclusion that they'd go 1-2 in that April's NFL Draft. That same certainty isn't existent with Smith and his decision to skip the Senior Bowl may end up coming back to bite him with his draft status. It's pretty rare to see a top quarterback play in the bowl game, but Smith has some work to do before he can be considered elite enough to pick his own battles. After a pretty awful performance against Syracuse to finish his senior season, Smith didn't leave the impression he may have wanted to with NFL scouts, and by skipping the Senior Bowl he'll have his work cut out for him when it comes to the Combine.

Why expose yourself to possible injury?

Because no self-respecting college football fan will give a hoot when he's gone.

The various college all-star games are a chance for seniors to make one more impression on scouts and gm's. Smith obviously feels that he doesn't need to do that. Good. Let some other senior qb get a chance to turn some heads.

Senior Bowl doesn't mean anything to the 32 NFL scouts. If they want him they'll go after him.

And yes, he sucked in the Pinstripe Bowl.
