Cowher plans to coach, Jets on radar?

07:50 AM ET 01.09 | Might that jutting jaw make its return to bark on an NFL sideline again? Six seasons have passed since Bill Cowher walked away from the Steelers, and 2013 likely will make it seven. But the CBS analyst and former coach said Tuesday that he probably will return to the NFL -- eventually. "It would be a challenge," he said of the layoff since he last coached, "but I think that's probably why I would get back into it, because of the challenge." So he does plan to go back at some point? "Yeah," he said. The question, of course, is when. ... If the Jets falter next season, Cowher naturally would be a popular choice to replace Rex Ryan. In that scenario, quarterback Mark Sanchez presumably would be on his way out, too.

Bill would be buying a share of the sinking ship. I don't think so.

Coaching the Jests certainly would be a challenge, [at least one Ryan twin is unemployed (should have been both)]

Wow, what a great circus the next season will be, with Fat Rex knowing that there's a hooded guy with a big axe standing right behind him.

Both Ryan and Sanchez are on their way out. It's just a 12 month trip.

Yeah he did actually, but I'm thinking it will be a cold day in hell before you see him with the Jets. No if it was the Giants.......

Rex has the tattoo. Of his wife. Wearing a Sanchez jersey and nothing else.

They won a Superbowl and the whole team is back on the hotseat a year later. That doesn't sound like an ideal situation to me.

I do believe that he will coach one of New Yorks's teams. He has a girlfriend and an appartment in NY so it appears logical that if he comes back to coaching it will be there.

Cowher is only coaching if Rivera is fired in Carolina or if Shanahan is canned in DC..Other than Pittsburgh, DC and Carolina are the communities he has ties to.
