07:52 AM ET 01.09 | No stranger to trade speculation, Rudy Gay is hearing it again in Memphis. The Grizzlies' new management group is looking at imaginative ways to alter the team's canvas, and trading forward Rudy Gay may be the broad stroke. Gay's name continues to get mentioned in trade rumors around the NBA, although the Grizzlies' longest-tenured player seems indifferent about the possibility of changing addresses. "This is every year," Gay said. "If it happens it happens. So what. I'm playing today as a Grizzly. It's a business. People are going to talk and stuff will happen. It doesn't make me any less of a player." ... There also have been exploratory trade conversations centered on forward Zach Randolph.

Not sure what Grizzlies are thinking. Why would they even want to trade Zach and if Im not getting something of value in return for Gay Im keeping that dude also.

May have something to do with salary cap room...not really sure either. A team that is doing well and vying for a top 4 seeding in the playoffs shouldn't be looking to trade two of their best players...but such is life in small markets. OKC had to part ways with Harden in part because of the salary cap.

Yeah that is what I figured also. Just seems pointless to me. They overvalued Gay in the first place.

Bingo ... its a Furtue Cap move ...

Luxuary Tax Level is $ 70,307,000 .... Memphis over by $ 4m, ..

this year its $ 1 for every $ 1 over ...

then with the new CBA the rates go up next year. The new tax rate is a sliding scale that charges a team a higher rate for each additional $5 million it exceeds the tax rate.

For the first $5m a team exceeds the tax, it will be charged $ 1.50 per dollar, Tax charge $7.5M... for each dollar between $ 5m and $ 10m, it will be charged $ 1.75 per dollar,

So dump the BIG Contacts NOW ...

January 9, 2013  09:54 AM ET

the Luxuary Tax is also why NYK let RFA Lin go .... Houston back load the Contact ...

2012 $ 5,000,000 ..
2013 $ 5,225,000 ...
2014 $ 14,898,938 ... $ 9m raise is NYK would not match ....

Rudy for Pau...............

January 9, 2013  02:40 PM ET

Rudy is not the answer for the Griz. He is getting paid max salary only to be the 2nd option. His defense is average at best and does no shows often. Z-bo can let the team ride on his shoulders. If you look at all the forwards the only one which resembles anything like rudy would be danny granger who is injured. I would only trade him after the season and get some young talent or draft picks.
