08:10 AM ET 01.09 | Oh, to be a fly on the wall when NHL owners and Gary Bettman get together. [When] the NHL's board of governors ratifies the new collective bargaining agreement Wednesday in New York, it would be fascinating to hear the feedback Bettman gets from his bosses behind closed doors. If only we could. Not everyone is happy with Bettman himself or the deal itself. Not by a long shot. This negotiation took too long and turned too ugly, and this CBA might not solve the league's underlying problems in the long run. Still, in conversations with top officials from both high- and low-revenue teams over the past two days, amid all the rancor and rumors about Bettman and his future, the commissioner continued to receive support.

Not all owners are happy with Bettman

There arn't many fans happy with him either

just like many players probably aren't happy with the Union. That's life. Labour negotiations like this are messy, and in the end few people really feel like they come out as winners. I don't feel bad for anybody on either side, they both made concessions and moved towards something that, in the end, was reasonable. It just sucks that it took that long to get there.

He cannot hear them anyways , what with that 8 million dollars and a long contract stuck in his ears.

and from the almost dasily dispatches, I'm relatively sure he isn't on a lot of the players' Christmas Card lists either
In fact, the only people that can tolerate him are daly 9he HAS to!) and Fehr, because he even makes fehr look almost reasonable....

Its just really, really sad that this same agreement could not have been completed back in August..... personal differences worked out without causing thousands of collateral jobs to be put on hold for over five months....hurt a lot of people, who unlike the owners/players involved, are having a hard time getting back on track to a normal life....

He obviously has some backing with the owners because he wouldn't be able to get away with the (stuff) he has pulled and still have a job.
