06:15 PM ET 01.09 | Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher has been contacted by several NFL teams looking for a head coach, but Cowher has turned down interviews and will not return to the NFL next season, according to a report from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Cowher, who is currently an NFL studio analyst for CBS, said he thinks he will coach again but not next season. According to the report from Dulac, a source close to Cowher said it may be four or five more years before the 55-year-old Cowher decides to return to the sidelines.

Cowher doesn't need the headache of coaching again. He has moved on.

It would have to be a tam with a real shot at winning it, he would get total control and the money would have to be large

cowher was a great regular season coach with a team that was primed for long term success,he greatly underachieved with his time with the steelers, that said he still would make a great hire but i think he enjoys looking at his teeth on tv too much.

How do you get that? They were always competitive with Cowher, and won a Super Bowl.

I doubt it... It's going to be East Coast or nothing for him.

Not to mention the team he took over from Chuck Noll was in need of a complete rebuild , which is basically the reason Noll stepped down. Bill Cowher built an entirely new team from the ground up and kept them competitive the whole time. Hell he coached a team to the superbowl with a two qb system. You know that idea that everyone said was impossible when the Jets talked about doing it ? Take a look at where he stands on the list of all time winning head coaches, if Coach Cowher had of kept going instead of doing the right thing he would have had a legitimate shot at Don Shula's record.

Come on guys. You know he's waiting for an opening with the Cowboys. Leaving the great Steelers organization there is only two other organizations that should even be in his sights, Dallas and San Francisco. All other organizations pale in comparison. (Maybe a nod to Green Bay) What,,,, do you think he's going to coach for the Browns? The man has a chance to build a legend. It's not going to be the legend of the Giants or Jets. Jones has the desire, Cowher has the skill. Only thing to be worked out is the power. Say what you want about Jerry but the man knows how to get what he wants.$$$$ Sooner or later the "Boys" will back on top. Jerry's not stupid. Jerry can build an empire, that has been proven. He does however need to get on top of the NFL learning curve, and that's not easy. It'll come in time.

what was his record in afc title games? he was 2-5,not very impressive and a few of those losses the steelers were double digit favorites. when the playoffs roll around that is when u know you've got a great coach, his teams could never adjust at halftime.

A point of note: Jerry Jones Came into the league in 1989, after the SB. From 1990 to 2013 he's put three (3), trae, trip, tras, Super Bowl rings on his finger. The only other owners to do that is Bob Kraft and Mara/Tish. So in my humble opinion if you want to b**** about JJ being the GM get yourself 4 SB rings in 22 years and I might listen to you and pay homage to what you have to say. Until then **** and worry how your franchise is being run. You can only dream of being a Cowboys fan.
That's all I have to say on that subject.

Unless Dick LeBeau is going with the drooling spittle machine wherever he ends up coaching it is a waste of money.

Dallas? Really? Are you serious?
Few quality coaches would go to Dallas as long as Jerry Jones is there. The guy has run off Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells...and no one of that ilk is heading there any time soon.
Dallas? You make me laugh.

How many have they won since the core of the team put together by Jimmy Johnson has moved on?
Same as the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, and other also-rans in the league. Zip.
