07:50 AM ET 01.10 | The FedEx Field playing surface has come under a good deal of fire since Seahawks- Redskins, including from both head coaches. "The head coach and players have said themselves that the field was not up to snuff," NFLPA spokesman George Atallah told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday. "We certainly hope that they upgrade it." Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson pointed a finger at the league. "The commissioner, and I know it's a tough job, but he doesn't mandate mouthpieces. You care about us, but you don't mandate mouthpieces. You care about us, but we play on that field last week that was like, 'Really? Really?' That should be illegal. That's like working in a sweat shop to me." Redskins coach Mike Shanahan acknowledged issues with the field on Monday.

FedEx field, the NFL's sweat shop...

In all seriousness I hope they do upgrade the field for the safety of all.

How they have artificial turf at high schools in SE DC, but not at FedEx Field is beyond me.

turf is cheaper but not as good for the players...schools use it to be cheap...nothing more

I don't think Shanahan should be opening his mouth about poor working conditions after he FAILED to protect the most important player on his team...

keeping RGIII in the game is the kind of move I'd expect from China, East Germany, or the Soviets back in the 80's...win at all costs, even if your players die in the process...

Isn't a sweat shop one of those places where the employees have trouble with the English language and get substandard wages?

Nobody in the NFL gets substandard wages.

Surprised they didn't have a thread this morning about the Mayor saying they should change the name... He has nothing to say when asked about his shady campaigns though....

Fed Ex Field and a sweat shop are not exactly analogous, but we do get the point.

Sooo, what 'pc' name would you pick for them? How about what they were called in Boston, before they moved to DC - "Braves?" Oh well.

Does Michael Robinson know they make sneakers in sweatshops- they don't play football

Redskins.

You should suggest that one. It's actually pretty good.

The result of this little issue will be a demand for a new stadium. Negotiations for the stadium will lead to a new name for the team and will result in the Washington Carpetbaggers taking the field in a stadium even grander than Jerry's little playground.
