08:06 AM ET 01.10 | At least publicly, Paul Holmgren was clear when the topic of Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo came up. On Wednesday, the hot rumor was Luongo to ... the Flyers? It all started with a report from former player-turned-analyst Enrico Ciccone, who tweeted that the Flyers have interest in Luongo. His report was seconded by TSN analyst James Duthie, who is believed to be a close friend of Luongo. When contacted, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren quickly shot down the rumors. "That made me chuckle," Holmgren told the Daily News. "It's safe to say those rumors aren't true. They have no basis or merit." On many levels, the Flyers trading for another goaltender doesn't seem to make sense.

Well duh even if Bryz isn't the answer why would they trade a Russian head case for a French Candian head case? I can only think of two differences:

1. Bryz is/trys to be funny while Luongo trys to make serious comments that unintentionally are funny aka the tire inflator

2. Philly's scented lube tube economy would spike </p>

If they did this, i'm positive he would struggle, they'd switch back to Bryz, he'd be lights out and they'd end up buying out Luongo.

Sounds like the wishes of a Ranger/Pens fan

The Flyers trade for the first one didn't make sense either.

Not going that I disagree about the graveyard, even though I would like to think Bryz can be better then he was with even slightly better D infront of him. Tying up all that caps space with Bryz and Looloo just sounds Pens/Rags evil

Agreed, but us Pens/Rangers fans can dream.

yeah, but so much more fun when they simply implode, instead of being able to point at one thing

100% correct about this making no sense. I think Luongoal probably considers himself an italian-canadian above all else.

January 10, 2013  10:25 AM ET

In all seriousness, I think that Luongoal is probably a safer bet & a better value than Bryz. Either way, it doesn't matter because Philly is stuck with Bryz and I couldn't imagine Philly buying out Bryz, just to turn around and give up players to take on Luongoal.

We can say whatever we want about Philly's horrible track record, but I was always a fan of Hextall.

January 10, 2013  10:29 AM ET

The only interest in Luongo that the Flyers have is with what other team he ends up playing on.

well, if Strahlman was stand next to Lemieux....666

January 10, 2013  10:59 AM ET

This would be less stupid then the Flyers giving a long term deal to Bryz, but that's not saying much.
