02:39 PM ET 01.10 | Current Pittsburgh Steelers running back Chris Rainey was arrested early Thursday morning and accused of simple battery (dating violence), according to a report. The incident reportedly happened in Rainey's hometown of Gainesville, Fla. around 8:30 a.m. According to Gainesville Police Department spokesman Officer Ben Tobias, police received a 911 call from a witness about a verbal altercation that turned physical early on Thursday. The report states that witnesses told officers that Rainey and the victim got into an argument over Rainey's cellphone. The female victim entered the vehicle of Rainey's roommate, and Rainey confronted her on the passenger side of the vehicle, and began pulling her out of the vehicle. Witnesses also told police that Rainey slapped the victim across the face with an open hand. Both Rainey and the female victim reportedly then fell to the ground. The victim was able to run away, but Rainey reportedly chased after her because his cellphone was in a bag the victim was carrying. Rainey grabbed the bag again, and they both fell to the ground again. Neither party suffered visible injuries from the encounter and multiple witnesses confirmed the incident.

Second time for Chris to get arrested for the same thing. Not a good idea when the Rooney family is already in a bad mood

What are they in high school?

Did rainey get his cell phone back? it's a matter of pride in the hood.

Now it's a matter of unemployment in the hood

If she was trying to steal my phone, I'd slap her too. He should get a police commendation for fighting crime.

One thing for sure - the Steelers management doesn't tolerate abuse of women.

He obviously is not very bright. This whole situation sounds almost laughable if it wasn't so serious. Fighting like that over a cellphone? This sounds like something straight out from a Jerry Springer show.

Think any team will pick him up after two domestic abuse arrests? Maybe the Raiders but they have their own problems in Rolando McClain and I doubt they want another pinhead to deal with. Additionally, even if another team signs him, I'd be willing to bet Roger Goodell would want to have a nice long talk with him and possibly make him sit for a few games. Given the climate after the Jovan Belcher incident, I think teams will just walk away. Let's face it, he was a 5th round pick and had about 100 yards this year. If someone needs a RB that badly they can always just get one in this year's draft. Just look at Alfred Morris.

I hope Rainey can find someone in Gainesville to give him a job based on his playing career at UF. Otherwise he'll have to find a living other ways.

This is his second strike in the lst two months. He was arrested for Defiant Tresspass at a Casino in Washington PA on Dec 2nd. According to the PA GAmming COmmission that charge would only occur if someone agreed to stay away from the Casino and tried to get back in. This raises the question of what he did to get asked not to come back in the first place.

The Steelers cut him as they should have!
