06:57 PM ET 01.10 | 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh held his final press conference of the week on Thursday, and in response to the first question, he announced that David Akers would be the team's kicker on Saturday against the Green Bay Packers. Harbaugh followed up stating that Billy Cundiff would remain on the roster. The team signed Billy Cundiff during their bye week and allowed him to compete with David Akers for the starting kicking spot. Akers has struggled for much of this season, and at one point aggravated double hernia surgery he dealt with over the offseason. Cundiff and Akers both had a chance to kick over the last week, and it appears Akers did enough to hold on to his job.

Cundiff isn't the answer and making a world class kicker (who's struggling) like Akers kick against him for his job shows that Harbaugh is panicking and won't do well in the playoffs. Next year, find a new kicker in camp.

We all knew this was coming. But, if you're the Niners, you have big games the next few weekends that often come down to a field goal attempt...
You want Akers taking it?

No, you want to go for it on 4th and goal from the 12 because you have no kicker you can trust to make a chip shot. Well, you don't WANT to, really, but Akers or Cundiff?

Yeah, if I need a field goal to win a championship game, I want Billy Cundiff kicking it. Or not.
Talk about the worst possible acquisition. Why not just bring in Tebow to kick? He's a special teams standout.

My friends and I joked that the Niners would go after Cundiff. We were all laughing because it was beyond crazy and it would never happen. And then they prove us wrong. It just seems surreal that they signed him.
